EMV's Festive Cantatas: Gloria with Vivaldi & Bach

What is it? Looking for the perfect way to launch your Christmas week? Head to UBC's spectacular Chan Centre for an uplifting and enveloping afternoon concert presented by Early Music Vancouver. This year, their sparkling Festive Cantatas show features Vivaldi's 'Gloria,' which he wrote for children at the music school where he worked for most of his adult life. Echoing the composer's commitment to working with young people, this EMV concert also includes the Vancouver Youth Choir. The 2026 show additionally includes two wonderful Bach cantatas: the jubilant ‘Jauchzet Gott’ and the deeply reflective ‘Ich habe genug’. With the Pacific Baroque Orchestra under the direction of Alexander Weimann––along with top-notch soloists Len Torrie, Georgia Burashka––you can expect a stirring, vibrant performance that will appeal to classical music novices and die-hard aficionados alike. And if you want to learn more about the music, we highly recommend arriving early for EMV's entertaining and interactive pre-show chat.
